New hospitality tenants at Uniting Communities’ U City building on Franklin Street will dish up a range of delicacies when the 20-storey development opens its doors mid-year.

All hospitality and retail spaces on the ground floor of the development are now tenanted, with the announcement that Luigi Delicatessen will move to U City from Flinders Street in late July. The well-loved Adelaide restaurant will join the Pitt Stop Café and Uniting Communities’ new Goodwill city store.

‘Just as our residents on the upper floors of U City will add diversity and dimension to this unique community, so too will our partners at street level,’ says Uniting Communities Executive Business Manager, UCity, Ravinder Singh. ‘We’re excited to have this great mix of businesses on board.’

Top-ranked on TripAdvisor over the past four years for breakfast and lunch in Adelaide, Luigi Delicatessen will use the larger space on the corner of Franklin Street and Penaluna Place to expand its classic coffee and Italian lunch options. Luigi’s will operate for breakfast and lunch six days a week and, initially, dinner three nights a week.

‘I’ve been looking for a new venue for about a year,’ says owner Luigi Di Costanzo. ‘I wanted a great location, great venue and the right owner – it all had to come together for me to want to make the move. When I looked into the Uniting Communities brand, I loved that it fit so well with the Luigi’s culture, where we unite communities through our food – it’s a perfect fit.

‘I can’t wait to build on the great customer experience we’ve established over the past five years, and look forward to sharing our exciting concept plan for the fit-out and menu.’

Long-time neighbours of Uniting Communities, Pitt Stop Café, will also make the move next door, with frontage on the Pitt Street side of U City.

Under the name ‘Pitt Street Café’, it will feature an expanded menu of traditional Vietnamese dishes, as well as its range of café staples. It will also offer access to Wi-Fi, and charge points for phones and devices, as well as wheelchair accessibility.

Alongside the café will be Uniting Communities’ newest Goodwill store, bringing its wide range of high quality pre-loved goods back to the city’s west. The well-known South Australian brand supports the more-than 90 services that Uniting Communities offers to the local community.

‘Profits from Goodwill stores have been supporting our work for more than 60 years,’ says Mr Singh. ‘Like our other outlets in Blackwood, Mt Barker, Salisbury, Dernancourt and Unley, the U City Goodwill store will give the local community an affordable and ethical option for a more boutique op shopping experience.

‘Each of these businesses will be great drawcards and help us to deliver our vision of a vibrant inner-city community at U City.’
